What were the challenges?

The main challenge with this task was to migrate all of their existing data from an old Windows PC to a new Mac. The couple’s smartphones and tablets were all Mac iOS. Email is hosted locally by one of the ISP’s, but their migration from POP3 to IMAP had the epotential to be problematic with the risk of considerable loss of historical emails were it not for comprehensive backups on the PC.

What were the results?

After consulting with the couple and considering their individual work styles, we decided that the best option was a Mac Mini with dual, 24″ flat displays on a fully articulating dual-screen mount.

Once all components had arrived, installation was relatively straightforward and extra care was taken to ensure minimum cables and cords. The Mac Mini was paired with Apple’s Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and a Logitech HD webcam was centre-mounted just above the displays for optimum audio and video call quality with video conferencing apps. Audio output was also upgraded using a Logitech mini sound bar.

Separate user profiles gave both users complete control of files/data and avoided unintentional changes/deletions and then moving to Google for email and cloud storage was a major win for the clients.

An upgrade to Google Drive for small business added even greater benefit, with locked/private folders as well as shared folders and sharing of family photos/videos.
